Maldives restaurants serve local as well as international food including oriental, Middle Eastern, Indian and continental ones. Bars are available here only in resorts where one can get good range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drink. Especially during Ramadan time, even visitors are not allowed to drink alcohol in public place except in the tourist resorts.
Food in Maldives is very spicy mostly made of smoked fish, grated coconut, lime juice, onion and chili. But, still these foods are milder than the food of neighboring countries. Visitors can use services from the local cafes and restaurants till 1A.M. But opening hours may vary for different cafes and restaurants. Rice and fish soup with fish, chili, lemon and onion is a traditional food of Maldives. The local name for fish soup is ‘garudhiya’. Fish paste is known here as ‘rihaakuru’. Alternately food combination also may be available with chapatti which is known here as ‘roshi’. Sweet dishes like custard, bodibaiy and fruits like bananas, mangoes and papayas are easily available here during the Ramadan month. |
